My Nighttime Skincare Routine

This is one of the major reasons for the clarity in my skin – my new night time skincare routine! If you have acne prone, oily, problematic or combination skin, this routine is for you! It targets all the areas that these skin types need help with, The products I’m listing are my holiest of grails in products for clear, healthy skin from the outside. I also have an internal routine which I will share soon. Again, I cannot stress enough that the simpler your routine, the more effective your results will be. As long as you are targeting your problems areas.
I’ll start with cleanser. Bear in mind that this routine is slightly different to my makeup removal routine. You can read about that here.  This is my routine  when I am not wearing any makeup. I do this religiously every single night, no exceptions. No matter how tired I am, I cannot sleep without my night time routine. I follow my simple Cleanse, Tone (Exfoliate) & Moisturize steps.

I start off with cleanser. Right now I am using The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash. It costs about $16-$18 USD on Amazon. It’s great value for the amount of product you get.

I LOVE this cleanser. It is invigorating, lathers well & my skin feels very clean but not stripped after I use it. I purchase mine on Amazon. You don’t need to use more than 2-3 drops of this & you get 8.4 oz of product. It has lasted me months even with me using it twice a day. The tea tree ingredients agree well with my skin. I do find this cleanser to be clarifying & I highly recommend it.
My second step is toning/chemical exfoliating. Here I use Stridex 2% salicylic acid cotton rounds which is a chemical exfoliant. I speak about this product all the time.  This will cost you about $4 – $8 USD for 90 salicylic soaked cotton rounds. This should last you 3 months if used one per day. It’s great value for money & very effective.

If you don’t know about the benefits of chemical exfoliants, I break it down here. (You can also read about the differences between the 2 types of chemical exfoliants available in skincare.) This potent exfoliant breaks up oil, impurities & dirt on the surface of the skin as well as penetrating deep down into your pores. It reveals healthy, smooth, radiant skin & is excellent for daily exfoliation. If you suffer with uneven texture, blackheads, whiteheads, acne or any other issues, you will benefit from this product. All I do is swipe this over my skin. I can see an instant difference. My skin looks polished. I wait about 15 minutes before my last step.

Finally my last step is moisturizing. This is one of the most important things you can do for your skin no matter what your skin type is. I have a cocktail that I apply to my skin which has been doing wonders for my skin! I use a mixture of 4 drops of Simple Replenishing Moisturizer mixed with 4-5 drops of coconut oil. (You can read about all the benefits coconut oil provides for your skin here) The moisturizer will cost between $6 – $9 USD & I use about one of these per 2 months. The coconut oil will cost about the same. It is important to buy organic, virgin, cold pressed, unrefined coconut oil. The fats in the unrefined oil is what your skin will benefit from. Cold pressed simply means the oil was obtained manually from the fruit without heat being applied & therefore all the enzymes you need are present in the oil.

After my exfoliant has sat on my skin for 15 minutes, I mix the moisturizer with the coconut oil and apply liberally to my skin. I massage it for a full minute. The Simple moisturizer is rich without it being so sticky. It absorbs nicely while still providing sufficient night time moisture. The coconut oil is a wonder food for your skin! It provides anti bacterial, anti inflammatory & calming properties. It has completely changed the texture of my skin. Usually when I would use the moisturizer on its own, I didn’t find that the moisture lasted as well as I wanted into the next morning. The coconut oil adds an extra boost to the moisturizer locking in all the hydration while providing added benefits to my skin. I have used coconut oil as spot treatment for acne & it is unbelievably effective.

If you don’t have a night time skincare routine, I highly suggest you start. Even if you don’t think you have issues with your skin, this routine will change everything you thought you knew about your skin! These products are all easy to source, inexpensive, contain clean ingredients & are effective. For skincare, my motto is always simplicity, clean ingredients & consistent use in order to achieve the best & most effective results.

Let me know how this worked for you if you tried it. x
