Daytime Skincare Routine

Having a simple, consistent skincare routine is the one of the foundations of clear skin. During different times in the day however, our skin needs different things. This is my simple daytime routine for acne prone, oily or combination skins.
If anyone asked me months ago what my daytime skincare routine was, I’d say I just splashed my face with water. I don’t do this anymore since my night time routine has changed & is more intense so I feel like I need a fresh start the next day. You can read about my night time routine here.

Sometimes people ask me what my day time routine is & I’m almost hesitant to let them know that I don’t do that much to my skin, nor do I need to. As long as you have a solid night time routine, you can take it easy in the day. I swear by a 2 step system: cleanse & moisturize.

All you really need to do is know your skin type & then use a cleanser that caters to this. Most clenasers will be labelled what skin type they are best suited for. If you have dry skin, you will benefit from a hydrating cleanser. These usually are oil based, or a milky consistency & offer moisture while cleansing your skin. If you have oily skin, you will benefit from cleansers that remove dirt & oil & deep clean pores. Some are mattifying as well.  Combination skin types will benefit from gentle cleansers that clean your skin thoroughly but don’t strip it of its moisture. Blemished, sensitive & problematic skin have their own specialized cleansers that combat a variety of issues. Sometimes with a cleanser, you will have to go through a trial & error method. Everyone is different & so are their needs in skincare. I have tried several cleansers over the years. I have acne prone, oily skin & I have used many cleansers that have made my skin worse. Either they strip my skin too much or they have ingredients that further irritate my skin.

In the day I stick to two products & I use a pea-sized amount of each of them. My cleanser of choice is from The Body Shop & it’s their Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash.

I’ve owned this for a short while. When I first used it, I thought it gave me a reaction. The cleanser I was using prior to this was from St. Ive’s and it was their Green Tea Gel Cleanser for blemished skin with 2% salicylic acid (BHA). I still do recommend this one if you can find it. I haven’t been able to find this one for a while so after I ran out of it, I gave The Body Shop’s cleanser a try again & I didn’t have a reaction this time. My breakout  could have been caused by something else. I highly recommend this cleanser from The Body Shop.  I find it refreshing & it does not make my skin feel tight & dry. Since it contains tea tree oil (which is great for clearing breakouts) it doesn’t overly dry out my skin.

My second & final step is to moisturize. I have used several moisturizers over the course of a few years & I haven’t found anything that is as gentle yet effective as Simple’s Kind To Skin Hydrating  Light  Moisturizer.

This moisturizer offers just enough hydration for my skin without feeling sticky or greasy. It is a light cream-gel-like formula that absorbs quickly into the skin. If you have acne prone or oily skin, this is the perfect moisturizer for you. Just because you have acne or oily skin, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t moisturize. On the contrary, you should be doing so regularly.  Its a great base for under makeup also. It doesn’t make your foundation slip around your face like a richer moisturizer would. During the day my skin is a little oilier than at night so I find this formula easy to wear. This brand has no harmful or harsh chemicals, no parabens & no perfumes or dyes. I have never had a reaction with this product. It has a few simple ingredients that are written on the label & are all good for your skin.  If you have sensitive skin, this is the brand & product line for you. I swear by it. It is an affordable moisturizer & can be found easily.

If you don’t currently have a skincare routine I highly suggest you start and this is a pretty simple way to get your skin used to a routine. Its simple , effective & if you have problematic skin, its a great start to help you on your path to clear, problem-free skin.
