Out of all oils available to us, Why Coconut? Firstly, coconut oil contains a high concentration of medium-chain saturated fatty acids like caprylic acid and lauric acid. These acids fight against inflammation, bacteria, viruses and fungal infections. Coconut oil is an excellent source of nutrition for both internally & topically on our skin.
This is my holy grail, super oil for my skin! The one substance that has changed my skin & in turn my life.
I have been plagued by acne for the past 4 years. I have finally found a management system that is all natural, inexpensive, easy to keep up with & best of all, it WORKS. See my system here. One very significant part of my routine is coconut oil. I use organic, virgin, cold pressed coconut oil. You can also use cleanly & naturally refined coconut oil which hasn’t been bleached or has had chemicals & solvents used to refine it. Naturally refined coconut oil still contains the fatty acids that are beneficial to clearing up your skin, however, for the purpose of topical use I highly recommend organic, unrefined coconut oil.
Without delving too much into science and technical information, what I want to share with you is the level of effectiveness of this oil on skin.
I have been using coconut oil topically every night as part of my acne management system. I mix about 6-8 drops into my night-time moisturizer. (You can read about my full skin care routine for acne prone skin here). In the morning my skin is soft, supple, hydrated & radiant. The moisture lasts all night long & the improvement I have seen in pigmentation & overall clarity of my skin is unreal. I have used drops of coconut oil on scars & over a few nights they fade away. I have applied a drop or 2 to open acne (which I don’t have many of anymore!) & by morning its completely closed up & on its way to healing. I have applied a drop or 2 to cystic acne, the type that sits below the surface of the skin & doesn’t come to a head, and saw it shrink in size the next morning. Coconut oil has worked better for me than any other topical medicine I have ever used & the results are fast & effective.
If you’ve never tried using an oil on your skin I urge you to try coconut oil. It has worked wonders for me & I can’t wait to hear how it works for you. Leave a comment below if you’ve tried it & let me know what your results were. Until next time 🙂 – xo
